State Representative Mark Smith presented the Order of the Palmetto to our club member and past president, John Snowden at our August 3, 2026 meeting. John’s wife, Vicky, and former Congressman Henry Brown participated in the presentation.

Col Joe Dawson & David Johnson of the Rotary Club of North Charleston Breakfast spoke in support of John receiving this honor. Col Dawson was a founder of Military Magnet Academy & serves on the MMA Foundation with John. John, who served in the Marine Corp in Vietnam, started as a tutor at MMA. John asked Col Dawson if there was anything else he could do for MMA and from there John jumped in with both feet to serve the school in several capacities.

John’s family was there along with several members of the MMA faculty & staff and people who worked at Westvaco with John where he was the Mill Manager and many other friends.
