City of Goose Creek, SC
Greg Habib‘s time as the Mayor of Goose Creek continues to be an unprecedented success story for South Carolina’s eighth-largest City.
Under his leadership, the City has truly become the best place to live, work and play as the Mayor has focused on creating incredible new spaces to bring residents together:
Central Creek Park – which includes Berkeley County’s first all accessible playground – set a new standard for Therapeutic Recreation in the region after its construction in 2022. The City’s sparkling new 900-seat outdoor amphitheater has already attracted national acts to Goose Creek after opening in 2024. The new John McCants Veterans Park – which opened in 2020 and is named after the City’s first African American City Councilmember – has become a vital part of the fabric of the City.
Construction will soon be underway on a new multi-purpose events center – The Assembly at Goose Creek – that will give residents access to premier event space.
Goose Creek Recreation has blossomed under Mayor Habib, beginning with a gymnastics program housed in the City’s new Activity Center that is the envy of the region. Partnerships with the local school district have resulted in new fields and improved facilities.
Mayor Habib has created a climate that has attracted the best businesses, restaurants and retail outlets, giving Goose Creek residents more choices than ever. The Uptown Development at Carnes Crossroads is the latest feather in the cap of the City’s economic development efforts that the Mayor has championed.
Mayor Habib’s service to the Lowcountry and State has also continued to grow. He is President of the Municipal Association of South Carolina and serves on the board of directors of the Association of South Carolina Mayors. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce and the Charleston Regional Development Alliance, in addition to a host of other civic organizations.
Mayor Habib is the Vice President for Industrial Relations and General Manager for Charleston Steel and Metal Co, the largest privately held scrap metal processor in South Carolina, where he has worked since 2004. His leadership there includes executing all aspects of operations and logistics, plus sales, purchasing and strategic development. Prior to that, he spent 10 years at Trident Technical College, and five as the Director of Career Services, where he guided students to meet the needs of local employers.
As a longtime Goose Creek homeowner, son of parents who retired in Goose Creek, and father of two sons who were raised in Goose Creek, Mr. Habib is committed to help the city reach its potential. Goose Creek has been his home since 1982, when his father transferred with the United States Navy.
The Mayor is a 1986 graduate of Goose Creek High School. He subsequently earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master of Education in Higher Education from the University of South Carolina. He and his wife Ellen have two sons, Phillip and Coleman, both graduates of Goose Creek’s Stratford High School.
