After a successful and distinguished career in education, economic development, and public service, Pat Black has the best job of his life. He is retired and enjoying this lifestyle with his wife of fifty-three years, Katherine, their four grandchildren and their families, friends, colleagues, and his bird dog, Mr. Riggsfield!

He is a native South Carolinian, born and reared in Orangeburg, and now resides in Cameron. He is a graduate of Clemson University with a bachelors degree and also a Masters degree in Agricultural Economics. He has completed further studies in Higher Education Administration at the University of South Carolina.

Active in community and civic affairs throughout his life and career, he is a past president of the Orangeburg Kiwanis Club, Chairman of the Calhoun County Economic Development Commission, and Council Chair at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cameron as well as many other participation and leadership activities.

He is the “Voice” of the Orangeburg Prep Indians and the South Carolina Independent Schools Association, serving as the public address announcer for football, basketball, and other sporting events of the school and association. Later this week, he will be announcing the four classification championship football games for the Independent School Association at Charleston Southern University. He has been recognized by the National Association of Sports Public Address Announcers as South Carolina’s High School Announcer of the Year.

Pat Black is active with and supportive of his alma mater, Clemson University. He currently serves on the Clemson University Board of Visitors, is a past chairman of that group, as well as the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Life Sciences Alumni Board of Directors. He is a recipient of the Clemson University Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Clemson Alumni Association.

He first attended a Clemson – Carolina football game in 1965 and has attended every Clemson-Carolina football game played since 1970.
