Eileen has been a proud member of The Rotary Club of North Charleston since February 2004, when she became Executive Director of Trident Literacy, a position she held for 19+ years before retiring in Augusts 2023.

Eileen has held volunteer leadership positions in the general and Jewish communities for many years. She served as President of the Rotary Club of North Charleston, the Charleston Chapter of Hadassah, Charleston Jewish Federation, and the Hebrew Orphan Society. She was Chair of the Federation’s Jewish Community Relations Committee and is a past chair of the South Carolina Council on the Holocaust on which she continues to serve as an appointed member.

Eileen is the co-founder of Operation Understanding-Charleston, a leadership program for African-American and Jewish teens that served the community for five years, and created Mastering the Human Connection, a race relations program for businesses and schools. She was involved in efforts to raise funds to erect the Charleston Holocaust Memorial in Marion Square, and was the Guest Editor of The Post and Courier Special Section on the Holocaust for 22 years. In addition, Eileen interviewed Holocaust survivors around the state for Steven Spielberg’s Visual History of the Shoah Foundation.

Prior to joining Trident Literacy Association, Eileen was the Project Coordinator of the Greater Charleston Naval Base Memorial.

Eileen grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. She has a B.S. degree in Journalism from the University of Florida. Her husband, Stanley, is a retired Navy Captain. During their life in the Navy, they moved fourteen times and experienced a variety of cultures both inside and outside the United States. After living in Charleston five different times while in the Navy, they settled here permanently 32 years ago. They have two daughters and sons-in-law, and two granddaughters.
