MEETING - Benton Montgomery, Grow Food Carolina

Benton Montgomery is the Director of GrowFood Carolina, the local food hub of the Coastal Conservation League, where he leads efforts to connect South Carolina farmers with businesses, institutions, and families throughout the Lowcountry.
Benton’s journey with GrowFood Carolina began in 2011 as a part-time delivery driver. Through a variety of leadership roles, he has helped grow the organization into one of the region’s leading food hubs, supporting over one hundred local farmers while expanding access to fresh, locally grown food. He was named the Director in October of 2023, and now leads a program that generates millions of dollars in annual sales for South Carolina producers and serves as a vital link between local agriculture and the communities it feeds.
A native of Newberry, South Carolina, Benton is passionate about strengthening local economies, supporting family farms, and building a more resilient food system. His work focuses on creating partnerships that benefit farmers, businesses, nonprofits, and consumers alike.
Benton lives on James Island with his wife, an interior designer, and their young son. When he’s not working, he enjoys reading, spending time at the beach, and preparing to coach soccer and tee ball this fall.
