MEETING - Sam Clements, Doors to Dream
Sam Clements is a nonprofit executive director and educator with a passion for expanding opportunity for young people through innovative, community-rooted programming. As Executive Director of Doors to Dream, Sam leads organizational strategy, fundraising, communications, and in-school programming, overseeing a growing team and serving more than 200 students in underserved middle and high schools here in Charleston.. Sam was the first employee of Doors to Dream and has played a central role in building the organization from its earliest stages into a multi-school program, expanding to additional middle and high schools, increasing student enrollment from six in 2021 to over 150 this year, and growing the organization’s budget from the ground up to support a staff of three.
With a background in science education and nonprofit leadership, Sam brings both instructional expertise and strategic vision to their work. Sam holds a Master’s in the Art of Teaching from Relay Graduate School of Education and bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Deeply committed to community engagement, Sam serves as a board member of CharlestonHacks and is an avid volunteer mentor with Be a Mentor, in addition to supporting other local community organizations focused on youth development and equity.
