Tim Young is the Director of Development at Doors to Freedom. After growing up in the suburbs of Washington, DC, Tim moved to South Carolina to attend Southern Wesleyan University in the upstate. After graduating from college, Tim worked various odd jobs before moving to Cambodia for a year to work with an anti-human trafficking organization. He led a staff development program for Cambodian staff members who worked with children being sold for commercial sexual exploitation or at risk of being sold.
After a year of living in Cambodia, Tim moved back to Clemson, South Carolina to attend graduate school and obtain a Master’s Degree in Youth Development Leadership. While working and pursuing his master’s degree, Tim met his future wife, Christine, who is a native of Summerville. Tim joined Christine in Ladson, SC after getting married.
Christine has volunteered at Doors to Freedom since 2012, helping survivors of sex trafficking to achieve their educational goals of obtaining a GED or graduating with a high school diploma. Christine introduced Tim to Doors to Freedom. It was then that Tim learned that human trafficking is the second largest organized crime in the United States which led him to get involved with Doors to Freedom by helping raise funds and awareness for a safe home for survivors of sex trafficking to experience a transformed life.
