Captains Cathy & Oliver “Mike” Michels are Corps Officers of the Charleston, South Carolina corps with responsibilities for Charleston, Berkley and Dorchester counties. Mike is the son of Salvation Army officers and has been a member of the Salvation Army church his whole life. He fell in love with his childhood friend, Cathy Worrell, who attended the Wellsburg corps from elementary school age. They were married in Weirton, WV in 1985.

After over twenty years as employees of The Salvation Army, Cathy and Mike were called by God to become Salvation Army Officers, in April of 2008. They served as Corps Administrators in Seneca, SC, then entered The Salvation Army Evangeline Booth College in Atlanta, GA during August 2009. They were commissioned in June of 2011 and were appointed as Corps Officers for Princeton, WV. Next they were appointed as Corps Officers for Frederick, MD in June of 2013. In 2017, Cathy and Mike were appointed to overseas service at the Caribbean Territorial Headquarters of The Salvation Army in Kingston, Jamaica. In 2020, they returned to the Southern Territory of The Salvation Army right here in Charleston, SC.
