David Powell is the Community Outreach and Patient Advocate for Welvista in the Tri-County area. Welvista is a nonprofit organization based in Columbia. As the Tri-County’s Community Outreach and Patient Advocate (COAP) for Welvista, David partners with state and local agencies, other nonprofit organizations, and area hospitals and clinics to bring awareness to Welvista’s mission of providing free prescription medication to the uninsured residents of South Carolina. In 2020, David assisted over 5000 Tri-County residents in getting their prescription medication saving those residents approximately $12.5 million dollars in prescription medication costs.

David is originally from Indiana where he attended Ball State University and studied Business Administration. David has lived in the Summerville community for almost 30 years. He is married to his wife Rebeca, a paralegal with the Wigger Law Firm in North Charleston. David has a son and daughter and three grandchildren. David and his wife are both active members of Bethany UMC in Summerville where David serves as a Delegate to Annual Conference and as a Liturgist at Bethany.

David is the Past President of the Rotary Club of Summerville and currently serves as the club’s Public Image Chair, Charitable Giving Chair and Community Service Projects Coordinator. David is a member of the Board of Directors for The ARK of South Carolina, and serves on the Summerville Mayor’s Committee on the Employment of People with Disabilities, the Summerville Medical Center Community Advisory Board and as an advisor to the Dorchester County Community Outreach Board of Directors which operates both the men’s and women’s homeless shelters.
