Rev.Bill Stanfield, CEO Metanoia SC

Reverend Bill Stanfield is a co-founder of Metanoia in North Charleston, where he currently serves as CEO. Under his leadership, Metanoia has stewarded $5.5 million in federal funds and more than $17 million in philanthropic funding in its nearly 20 years of operation.

Metanoia’s innovative approach to community development is called Asset Based Community Development which involves identifying community assets and attracting investment to those assets. Metanoia currently focuses on three primary areas – youth leadership, affordable housing, and economic development. Metanoia’s largest project to date is the renovation of the Old Chicora Graded School. The 57,000 square foot facility will be renovated to historic standards and house educational space, a center for the performing arts, and local artist’s studios. Metanoia will operate the region’s only A-rated early childhood education center serving a majority of low-income children ages six-weeks to four years old on the Old Chicora campus.

Rev. Stanfield is originally from Greensboro, NC, and holds a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He obtained a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Evelyn, are the adoptive parents to two boys from Ethiopia, ages 13 and 16. Rev. Stanfield is also an associate minister at the primarily African American St. Matthew Baptist Church where Metanoia operates.
